AVANTEA is a SME biotechnology company performing research in animal assisted reproduction, transgenesis, stem cells, alternative toxicological testing within international and national collaborative research projects. As a company Avantea has acquired a leadership role internationally by developing products and services from its R&D activities.Those include production of embryos of the major livestock species by assisted reproduction techniques, stem cell derivation for cell therapy and banking, production of customized genetically modified large animals by somatic cell cloning, training courses in assisted reproduction and transgenesis. Research and development activities are supported through competitive grants from European (EU Commission and European Science Foundation) and national (National Institute of Health, Ministry for University and Research, bank Foundations) granting agencies.
Principal Investigator: Dr. Giovanna Lazzari

Dr. Giovanna Lazzari is founder of Avantea srl and  Research Director. Her area of interest is on  embryonic stem cells, early embryo growth and development of alternative toxicological tests based on gamets, embryos and embryonic stem cells. She also coordinates the research activities related to bovine infertility in relation to embryo genotype and embryo-maternal interactions. She holds a degree in Veterinary Medicine from the University of Milan and has carried out her post-doc  in Cambridge (UK), mainly focusing on the physiology of mammalian oocyte growth. She has been President of the Italian Embryo Transfer Society and of the European Embryo Transfer Association. She is author of 160 publications in international scientific journals.
